Description
Reticulate by Khairul Arshad presents a multifaceted exploration of the interplay between the urban environment, nature, and elements of fantasy. The dense, interconnected composition suggests a world where these diverse elements coexist, creating a vibrant and chaotic tapestry. The inclusion of sweets like ice cream and doughnuts adds an element of whimsy and surrealism, inviting viewers to find joy and playfulness amidst the complexity.
This artwork can be seen as a commentary on modern life, where the boundaries between the built environment, the natural world, and the whimsical or fantastical are increasingly blurred. It encourages viewers to consider the intricate and sometimes unexpected connections that make up our world.
Khairul Arshad graduated with a Diploma in Fine Art from UITM Alor Gajah in 2008. His artistic journey began early, with a second-runner up finish in the Tanjong Heritage art competition in 2007. He further honed his skills, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from UITM Shah Alam in 2010. Khairul's work gained recognition as he participated in prestigious exhibitions. In 2013, he showcased his art alongside other artists at the Neu 4 group exhibition at Pace Gallery. The following year, he was selected for the Art KL-Melbourne exhibition in Australia. Khairul is also a member of the artistic trio Paksi. Together, they presented their works in exhibitions like "Berdiri" at HOM Art Trans in 2015 and "Jogja Journal" in Jogjakarta in 2016.
